The Legion is Messed Up, You Know?


Wait, so they’re rejects, but they do fine work?

Admit it Braniac 5, the only reason you guys don’t take the Subs seriously is you don’t want to admit that you made a mistake not taking them.

Oh and if I were on a team that included Matter-Eater Lad and Bouncing Boy, I sure as heck wouldn’t be throwing any stones…

If memory serves I think in the "Five years later" adult legion stories they made Color Kid something of a badass... I loved that run on the book...

If I remember right he used his powers to create a type of chameleon effect that he constantly adjusted so that he and others would blend into backgrounds for stealth purposes and changing someone's cornea from clear to black could effectively render folks blind until he changed it back. The power expanded from just turning a book from blue to yellow. Imagine painting a book with photo precision to blend it into a desk. Any equipment with displays of any type would be useless if he rendered the display opaque. He wasnt a major character or anything but they tweaked him enough to show that he could be surprisingly effective given his joke of a history...

"Color Kid" ?! Who comes up with these names? And as far as powers go, his power seems kinda gay and hardly 'badass'. :-)

Color Kid was also able to change the physical properties of Green Kryptonite simply by changing its color. In one story, he made a cloud of Green K turn blue, thereby somehow turning it into Blue K.

We're still trying to make sense of that one.

He should have been a member of the Legion Espionage Squad along with Princess Projectra and Shadow Lass.

As for Matter-Eater Lad, well, how else are you going to get out of a cage that's made of magnozite, the most poisonous material in the universe?

What's worse is that IIRC one of the "Rejects" had plant powers. That "Reject" could be out feeding the hungry if it wasn't for this kind of crushing blow to the Rejects' self-confidence.

Why doesn't he just say "you're a loser, go join all the other losers in the Substitutes and stop stinking up our clubhouse" and be done with it?

To be fair though, Bouncing Boy was rejected the first time he tried out for the Legion, and they were far ruder to him than they were to Color Kid. I believe their exact words were, "Okay you can bounce...so what?" They then proceeded to follow him around for the next week to laugh at him. It was only after he proved that his powers could be useful (by stopping a bank robber that Saturn Girl was unable to aprehend) that they admited him into the Legion.
